”A Complex Cocktail Of Dreamy Adult Pop And Sophisticated Cinematic And Discotheque Touches”
Vibist Cal Tjader was one of those quietly influential jazz artists who made seminal Latin jazz albums for Fantasy Records in the ’50s with Luis Miranda, Willie Bobo and Mongo Santamaria (check out “Monterey Concert). But since he and his label were in the Bay Area away from the media-powered citys of LA and New York, it was other musicians more than a growing public that appreciated his music. In the ’60s, he signed to Verve, making progressively more commerical albums like this one featured on Marc Meyer’s blog and his popularity grew.
